Winter holiday in Mexico was a most enjoyable break away from all media. I was able to begin my research of the Muxe community while making plans for the documentary I am producing in November 2020. Upon leaving Mexico, I was made aware of an illness striking people in Wuhan, China. It seemed as the days passed that more and more people were coming down with the illness, COVID-19.
Upon returning to the states, consideration was given to cancelling the next vacation to Europe. My partner really wanted me to enjoy my birthday as planned in Europe so we decided to continue travel for spring break. Travels took us to Paris, Ghent and Brussels with plans to continue on a Mediterranean Cruise. The texts began to come in at 3:00 in the morning while I was in Brussels, Belgium. COVID-19 had struck the world and the government was reacting. I decided to begin the journey home a week and a half earlier than planned. From Brussels to Paris to New York, I could see fear and frustration on the face of many. I decided then that my next series was going to focus on COVID-19.
